    1. Only Two Weeks Left to Return WC Fund Payroll Audit Materials  

    ACCA Workers’ Compensation Self-Insurers’ Fund Members need to return their completed audit materials (i.e., payroll and employee data and the necessary back-up documentation, which includes copies of the quarterly UC 10-R Wage Reports as submitted to DIR/DOL, employee classifications, overtime listings and certain information concerning elected officials) by November 15, 2015.  An estimated final audit billing will be incurred for all Fund Members not meeting the deadline.     2. Meetings, Records & Media

    You won’t want to miss the next County Government Education Institute class if you are a county employee who has responsibility in the following areas:

    • Open Meetings;
    • Open Records;
    • Record Retention;
    • News Media;
    • Social Media.

    The Communications & Media Relations Class, offered Nov. 18-19 in Prattville, will provide a thorough overview of these topics and more as they specifically apply to county government. The registration deadline is this Wednesday, Nov. 4. Use the link above for more details and to register. (The Alabama State Bar has approved the course for 11.5 hours of CLE credit.)


    3. New Debris Contracts in Effect for 2015-16

    The Association has successfully concluded awarding the pre-event disaster contracts for Debris Removal and Monitoring services. In the event of a natural disaster, these contracts may be activated by all 67 counties. The new contracts were effective November 1, 2015, with the option to renew for two additional years.     4. Minority Issues Steering Committee’s Meeting Productive

    The Association’s Minority Issues Steering Committee, led by Choctaw County Commissioner Tony Cherry, reviewed and recommended platform positions on a variety of topics last week. With primary emphasis on election legislation, prison reform and the impact of state budget cuts, the committee forwarded its recommendations to the Association’s Legislative Committee for its meeting next week.  In addition, the committee adopted a resolution encouraging Gov. Robert Bentley to fully restore the operation of the part-time drivers’ license offices closed earlier this fall.


    5. Unifying the County Voice

    A new strategic vision for the Association will take even sharper focus today as the statewide strategic planning committee, known as Team 2021, concludes its review of the plan developed over the last 10 months.  The full ACCA membership will review and take action on the new five-year strategic roadmap during the Legislative Conference in Auburn next month. In the meantime, Team 2021, the staff and ACCA Board of Directors will continue to refine the plan, designed to guide the Association’s efforts at Unifying the County Voice through the year 2021.
