    1. 2015 PESCA Safety Conference 

    The Public Employees Safety Council of Alabama (PESCA) will be hosting its 16th Annual Safety Conference in Montgomery at Cramton Bowl on November 5. This one-day conference is an awesome opportunity to meet with public employee safety professionals from all over the state. Please see this PESCA Conference Flyer for more info.     Secretary of State John Merrill has two special websites devoted to elections that you may find helpful.

    • has numerous resources for voter and candidates, including the Candidate Filing Guide, 14th Ed., and a filing calendar for the 2016 election cycle.
    • has up-to-date info on voter ID requirements and where citizens can get their free photo voter ID card. The secretary of state has a Mobile ID unit crisscrossing the state to make these free voter IDs easily available. The schedule includes stops in Monroe, Dallas, Lee, Macon, Lamar and Colbert counties – just in the next few days.


    3. Deadlines Soon for Workshop in County Financial Administration & CROAA Update

    There are two important County Government Education Institute classes scheduled for the first week of November, and the registration deadline is next week – Oct. 20. Use links below for more info & online registration.

    • Workshop in County Financial Administration features presentations from the Dept. of Examiners of Public Accounts that are custom-tailored for counties. Topics include purchasing cooperatives, credit cards, loans in anticipation of taxes and competitive bidding, not to mention RSA retirement benefits and finding a financial advisor.
    • CROAA Update attendees will get to hear from – and pose questions to – representatives of the Alabama Department of Revenue, University of Alabama, Office of the Attorney General, Legislative Fiscal Office, Department of Examiners and CROAA members from 4 counties.


    4. FEMA Issue: Counties Encouraged to Contact Congress

    One provision of the proposed federal budget for FEMA would have a negative impact on Alabama Task Force 1, the state’s urban search and rescue program.     5. ACCA Director Re-Elected

    ACCA Executive Director Sonny Brasfield has been re-elected as vice-chairman of the Board of Directors of County Reinsurance Limited (CRL).  The Association’s two insurance funds are equity owners of CRL, which provides both workers’ compensation and liability reinsurance coverage.  In the coming year, the Association’s new property insurance program will also secure reinsurance through CRL.
